ARTS FISSION

Arts Fission Company composes body, spaces, object, light and music with a series of abstract movement. “Shadowhouses” performance is based on composer George Crumb’s music with poignant dance episodes recalling memories of lost innocence and faith, loneliness, alienation and the increasing sense of fore bonding amidst the daily tedium and routine of modern living.

Programa: Shadowhouses.
Members: 7 on stage.


BALLET PHILIPPINES

The company is set to lead modern, contemporary dancers as well as the choreographers and dance teachers from the Philippines. It is one of the best companies in Asia.

Program: Classical, popular and children’s ballets, modern and postmodern dances and multimedia performances.
Members: 20 people.


BAYANIHAN

It is a show of folk dance that gathers both the dances of the different ethnic groups from the Philippines and the Spanish-inspired dances from the colonial era.

Program: Ethnic dances.


CHINA DISABLED PEOPLE'S PERFORMING ART TROUPE

Established in 1987 with the purpose of developing a very special art, it is made up of artists with different kinds of disabilities who pursue to reach perfection starting off from their limitations and turning the “impossible” into “possible”.

Members: 40 performers.
Program: Traditional and classical dance, erhu, piano…


CHINESE OPERA INSTITUTE

Through its productions with young actors from Singapore, it tries to bring close the different schools of Chinese Opera to the new generations from the countries in Southeast Asia.

Program: Group of 14-year-old actors Chinese Opera @ Nanhua: The Spiders'Cave. Group of adults Chinese Opera Institute: The Nightingale.


CHITRAVINA N RAVIKIRAN

Chitravina N Ravikiran was a prodigy child and he is currently one of the most outstanding composers and performers of instrumental Indian music as well as a first-rate singer. He has performed with orchestras from different parts of the world and he has given concerts in countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, the United States…

Members: 3 singers, 1 chitravina, 1 violin, 1 veena, 1 mrudanga and 1 ghatam.
Program: Songs from the nine nights.


CONTEMPORARY LEGEND THEATRE
The Kingdom of Desire

This Taiwanese company adapts universal works from the West to the repertoires of Chinese Opera accommodating them to the laws of opera, such as The Kingdom of Desire based on Macbeth

Members: 58 people (26 actors, 22 musicians).
Program: The Kingdom of Desire.


COOKING NANTA

Nanta!!! Shows the power of the Korean people, as they sublimate their traditions by grafting them into the modern times. The performers create rhythmic sounds and comical situations using knives and chopping boards while preparing soup. The audience can also participate in the show by tasting the soup. There’s certainly nothing quite like this. NANTA is a great example of how to inherit traditions in modern way.

Members: 7 on stage.

DING XIAO YAN RUAN ENSEMBLE   virtual gallery

This orchestra was created in Singapore in 1995 under the direction of Ding Xiao Yan with the aim of developing Chinese traditional music as well as one of its most representative instruments, the ruan, an instrument dating from the Tang Dynasty, which is present in every Chinese traditional music orchestra.

Members: 25 people.
Program: Chinese traditional music, classical music, and international and spanish christmas carols.


DUA SPACE DANCE THEATRE

First professional dance company in Malaysia. The works of Dua Space Dance Theatre are identified as contemporary dance with conceptual bases relating to Chinese, Malay, Indian and aboriginals traditional art forms. Inspired by the paintings of Dali, Klimt and Munch, the play ´Scream - A Response to Munch´ express the idea and feeling of his choreographer towards the changes in Malaysia society.

Members: 8 people (4 dancers).

DULSORI

Dulsori, literally; `wild beat´, was formed in 1984 to preserve traditions and to perpetuate the form in a contemporary context. They are among South Korea’s most renowned drumming ensembles. An exuberant group who pound out primitive rhythms with modern flair, Dulsori is the song of farmers working in the fields. They transform the ancient philosophy of Taoism into percussion.

Members: 6 people.
Programs: Tao / Gonji - Gonji.


ERASGA DANCE COMPANY
Philipines/Canada

It was founded in 2001 by Alvin Erasga Tolentino, one of the most active Asian/Canadian artists to provoke and fascinate audiences around the world. His works, which combine explorations of his Asian roots with contemporary Western issues, have given him international acclaim as an innovative modern dance artist. The company is dedicated to create and present works that combine dance with multi-media arts and has performed all around the world. On stage we find a piano, the dancers and a taiko (Japanese drum).


GIRLS NATIONAL MUSIC BAND

The Girls National Music Band is made up of 13 girl music talents who are chosen from top Chinese academy of music and the instruments used by the band encompass both Chinese and western. The songs of the Band have been composed by well known composers from China, Japan, America and South Korea. A dazzling stage, with a background settings of mysterious territory.

Members: 13 girls on stage.


HAN TANG YUEFU
Old music, dance and songs from the Chinese Empire

In 1991 they were given the Award to Living Tradition (Taiwan). This ensemble puts on the most exquisite old music, dance and singing from the Chinese Empire. In 2001, the show’s artistic designer was awarded an Oscar.

Program: Yen Ke Xing.
Members: 15 people (5 musicians and 5 dancers).

Program: The Feast of Han Xizai.
Members: 30 people.


HEAVENLY SOUNDS
Buddhist Religious Music

Program of Buddhist religious music performed by the Fo Guang Shan Choir, the Taipei Classical Chinese Orchestra and the Taipei Municipal Ballet, which has made a great impact in the West and is still unknown in Spain.

Choir members: Up to 200 monks and nuns in a number which is considered more appropriate.
Orchestra members: 80 professors.
Ballet members: 10 dancers.


HSIN-HSING KU PUPPET COMPANY

From Taipei, these are puppets for everyone with the addition of indigenous music performed live and showing the refinement typical of Chinese civilization.

Members: 16 people (4 puppeteers, 5 musicians).
Program: The Monkey King, a Chinese tale and some popular festivities.


HU QIN QUARTET

Moved by their passion for performing chamber music, four professional musicians from the Singapore Symphony Orchestra got together in 1998 to create the first string quartet of its kind within the Chinese music scene. The ensemble is composed of Chiang Kum Mun (gaohu), Ling Hock Siang (erhu), Cheng Chung Hsien (zhonghu) and Poh Yee Luh (gehu).

Program: Chinese chamber music.


JOE LOUIS THEATER

The puppets of Joe Louis Theater in Bangkok provide a unique experience. Each of the puppets is handled by three puppeteers who breathe life into these miniature characters by means of very realistic movements and gestures.

Members: 10 people.
Program: Ramakien.


JU PERCUSSION GROUP

An ensemble made up of the best percussion professors from Taiwan who are able to perform music from the West and from the East. It is a true show of formal percussion.

Members: 11 musicians.
Program: Eastern and Western works for percussion.


KOREAN TEA MUSIC

Since its foundation, in 1982, its components have been working toward creating new composition in Korean traditional music. Korean Tea Music provide us with a taste of tea and music that is full of contentment, a calm and clear melody and a cup of tea made by Koryo potter, which in the words of a Japanese poet, says that if there is a road to Heaven, this is the road it should be.

Members: 17 people.
Program: Korean Tea Music.


KORPHAI   virtual gallery
The delicious flavor of Thai percussion

The ensemble is made up of a young generation of musicians who play together since 1983. They are known at an international level for their outstanding performance of classical and contemporary Thai music. Since they were founded, they have released several albums and they have given many concerts in Thailand and abroad.

Members: 10 musicians.
Program: Classical and contemporary Thai music.


KUO KUANG CHINESE OPERA COMPANY

The first company of Chinese Opera from Taiwan that has strived to change its repertoire bringing tradition closer to contemporary ideas and universal works.

Members: 63 people (36 actors, 12 musicians).
Program: The Monkey King.


LEGEND LIN DANCE THEATRE

A great contemporary dance company of international prestige that puts on an outstanding show suffused with religious, popular rituals from Taiwan.

Members: 30 people (18 dancers, 3 musicians).
Programs: The Jiao Ceremony or Anthem to the Fading Flowers.


LINA YEH & ROLF-PETER WILLE. Piano Duo

It is the most stable piano duo that brings together Eastern and Western sensibilities in a very broad program. With the labels Polygram and Phillips they have recorded a significant amount of compositions for two pianos.

Program: Chen Young, Hsiao Tai-Jen, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Mayer and Francis Poulen.


NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORQUESTRA (NSO), Taiwan

From its foundation in 1983, NSO has flourished as Taiwan´s representative classical ensemble. It has been highly praised by audiences and the media in its many performances in Europe. It is dedicated to the exploration of traditional 18th-19th classical and romantic symphony repertoire, performing the central masterpieces of Brahms, Mahler, Strauss, Mozart… Also the music of Taiwanese composers takes an important place on its performances. It is conducted by Wen-Pin Chien.

Members: around 90 musicians.
Programme: 18th-19th c. classical and romatic symphony, contemporary and 20th c. repertoire, and music of Taiwanese composers.


NEW ASIA BAND   virtual gallery

A new sound and concept of world fusion from the heart of Asia, created by award-winning composer, producer and guitarist, Andrew Lum, and features 5 of the finest ethnic artists and musicians from all over Asia. The constant strive to break new grounds puts New Asia in the forefront of Asian music. The key of this seamless blend of East & West, lies in Lum's ability to strike a delicate balance between the commercially successful elements of Western music and the deep mysticism of Eastern melodies.

Components: 6 musicians.


ODYSSEY DANCE THEATRE

Founded in 1999 by Danny Tan to provide a new creative voice in dance. ODT is known for its technical brilliance, creative use of supporting multimedia and simplicity of images offset by complexity of narrative concepts.

Program: Full-length works; Innocent Light, The “White” Sensation, and Passion.Love. Short Repertories; Instinct, Innocent Light (Excerpt), Heaven.Earth, and Wings.


PATRAVADI THEATRE

Since 1992, it is the pioneer company of performing arts in Thailand. It is devoted to the production of works both classical and contemporary that are inspired in Thai culture and tradition. In their latest production “Eclipse”, 12 artists (musicians, dancers and actors) transmit us that suffering is caused by not knowing the truth. The story explores and it is based on the Buddhist teachings about the cause of suffering by showing people's reactions to an Eclipse

PHILIPPINE MADRIGAL SINGERS

Singing according to the guidelines established by the old, refined traditions of the madrigal, the choir raises enthusiasm in a heterogeneous audience and it is one of the Filipino ensembles that has the greatest tradition and international projection.

Members: 20 people.
Program: Renaissance music, contemporary music, Filipino folklore, kundiman, sacred music, madrigals, spirituals, songs from the world folklore.


PHILIPPINE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

It was established in 1973. It is the best orchestra from the Philippines with a program by Filipino composers that has an authentic Spanish origin.

Members: 70 professors.
Program: Music by Filipino composers from the 19th & 20th centuries.


PURBAYAN CHATTERJEE (Sitar) & ANINDO CHATTERJEE (Tabla)

Purbayan is regarded as one of the most brilliant stars from the youngest generation of classical Indian musicians. He combines an amazing virtuosity with a mature lyricism. Anindo is one of the most emminent maestros of the tabla. He is an outstanding soloist who has a wide range of experience, a deep knowledge of compositions, great depth and virtuosity.

Program: Indian traditional music.


RAMON OBUSAN FOLKLORIC GROUP

Throughout its 30 years of existence, it has been devoted to preserve and spread the dance and music traditions from the Philippines. It can be proud of having given more than one hundred performances both in the Philippines and abroad.

Program: Ethnic dances.


ROYAL CAMBODIAN BALLET   virtual gallery

The historical Royal Cambodian Ballet makes possible that the mythical Apsaras sculptures move into flesh through the delicate sensuality of the dancers. The Ballet recreates the love story between the divine Monorea and Prince Preah Sothun. Accompanied by the music of the Pin Peat Orchestra (glimmering gongs and drums, and an oboe), by the songs of the choir, and the exquisite details of each costume golden embroidered.

Number of artists on stage: 38


RS LEGEND

It is a show based on traditional songs and ceremonies from the indigenous people of Taiwan. The lead singer is regarded as the best native singer in the country who is gifted with a voice that has a magical, ancestral power capable of transporting us in time and in space.

Program: The voice of the spirit of the ancestors.
Members: 8 musicians.


SAMULNORI

With the four typical instruments of Korean percussion (the kwaengwari, the jing, the janggo and the buk), the music that celebrates the joy of living follows the Buddhist tradition of the peasants who are grateful for their harvest.

Members: 4 musicians.
Program: Korean traditional music.


SDH DANCE COMPANY

SDH Dance Company, different from usual dance structure, pursues experiment, humor, and unique color in dance pieces. It advances into the world stage with original works of good technique and antural movements. SDH Dance Company consists of young choreographer and dancers, and has original and unique ideas, which goes well with contemporary perspectives and encounter with other genres, in order to make experimental dance works.

Programs: Aesthetics of Orderly Contradiction / Tongue Off

SIAM PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA

One of the youngest and novel orchestras from Asia. The tour of the Siam Philharmonic Orchestra is within the project of transmitting the western audience the sensitivity of easter musicians when performing classical music, together with approaching the music created by Asian composers educated in the West.

Members: about 60 Pricipal Players and two Soloists.
Programme: Classical music of Western and Thai composers.


SINGAPORE CHINESE ORCHESTRA

It was set up in 1974 and it became the first Chinese orchestra of its kind outside China and one of the main orchestras from Singapore. It has given concerts both in China and in Taiwan.

Program: Chinese classicals.
Members: Around 100 musicians.


SINGAPORE DANCE THEATRE

It is a company known for its versatility and its flexibility to cover a great variety of styles and, at the same time, to preserve the integrity of each personal view of the choreographer. The company stands out for its cosmopolitan personality which is reflected in the physical beauty of the dancers and in a style that is capable of crossing the borders between East and West, both in idea and in motion.

Members: 30 people.
Program: Classical and contemporary works.


SINGAPORE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Under Lan Shui’s baton, they give more than 90 concerts a year and they have many recordings to their credit, including the recordings of compositions by Asian composers. On the tours they have made throughout Europe, they have stood out for being a “young, brilliant” orchestra.

Program: Baroque, classical, contemporary, oriental, avant-garde music…
Members: 90 musicians.


SOVANNA PHUM

This ensemble is devoted, from its foundation in Cambodia in 1994, to recover and transmit to every type of audience the wonderful aesthetics of the dances, music (and arts in general) of the ancient culture of the Khmer Empire, so unknown in Europe.

Members: Arround 10.
Program: Traditional Khmer dance and music, Shadow Puppets and many other Khmer arts performances.


SUTRA DANCE THEATRE

It was founded in Malaysia in 1983 by the famous artistic director Ramli Ibrahim who is an expert dancer in classical and modern ballet as well as in Indian classical dance (bharata natyam, odissi…). The company has created more than 40 productions whose contents is both tradtional as well as contemporary and Ramli Ibrahim has taken them all over the world.

Program: Profound Grace.


TAI GU TALES DANCE THEATRE

This company from Taiwan is one of the most steady Asian companies of the international festivals held in the West. It develops a dance that mixes the contemporary techniques and the Chinese Opera tradition of the dancers.

Members: 14 people.
Program: The Life of Mandala.


TAIPEI CLASSICAL CHINESE ORCHESTRA

The first professional orchestra of Chinese traditional music from Taiwan. The genuine Chinese traditional music will be performed with traditional instruments.

Members: 80 professors.
Program: Chinese traditional music.


TAIPEI SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Founded in 1969, it is considered at an international level as one of the most important orchestras in the Chinese world and one of the most credited among the symphony orchestras from Asia. It has existed for more than 30 years and their invitations to International Festivals are continuous as well as the successes of their tours and their concert and opera seasons.

Members: 100 musicians.


TAIWAN YOUTH CHOIR

One of Taiwan’s main choirs, it is made up of young singers. The choir has an extensive repertoire and an international projection.

Members: 38 people.
Program: Contemporary music, Chinese folklore and folklore from Taiwan’s aboriginal people.


TAOISM EXHIBITION   virtual gallery

The biggest and most important exhibition of ancient Chinese art, displaying more than five hundred paintings, everyday-life & religious objects, costumes, sculptures and carvings, to witness the beauty of the unique pieces and the depth of the Taoism.

The National Museum of History (Taipei) will provide the exhibition with its scientific support and coordination in Asia.

Versatile exhibition to enable the displaying of smaller synthesized exhibitions or monographic ones.


THANG LONG WATER PUPPET THEATRE OF HANOI

To revive the magic and adventure of the water puppets of the ancient art of the Red River Delta, Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre has used a pool as stage, a simply bamboo system and a orchestra sited few feet above the water level. The pool is divided with a bamboo screen as a traditional tent behind which the puppeteers handle with absolute skilfulness the puppets that splash in the water.

Members: 15 on stage.
Programs: Teu, the Master of Ceremonies, Faming Activities, Legend of the Restored Sword Lake, Triumph Return and Dance of the Fairies.


THE FINGER PLAYERS

Formed in 1999, it has become the most respected Singapore group that fuses puppetry with an actor-centred theatre to create moving human drama, and above all a theatre of imagination. With its unique, dynamic artistic expression, it has been invited to festivals in countries all around the world. Their latest production Furthest North, Deepest South not only won over audiences but also has won Best Ensemble Acting and Production Of The Year at the 2005 Life Theatre Awards.

Componentes: 8 - 15 people.
Programs: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea; Furthest North, Deepest South; Three Little Monks.


THE NEO-CLASSIC DANCE COMPANY

Established in Taipei in 1976, this company has a large repertoire of productions both classic and contemporary that they have performed worldwide. This time they are showing their latest production on music and dance from the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD) in which influences from Islam, Buddhism, Taoism and Confucionism are incorporated, so that these now revived pieces become genuine treasures of mankind.

Members: 30 people.
Programs: Music and dance from the Tang Dynasty.


THE PALACE OF ETERNAL YOUTH

Kun Opera, classical form of chinese opera that predates the Peking style, is one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The most perfect combination of literature and arts. The Palace of Eternal Youth equals the greatest western operas in its beauty. It features around 50 artists from the Suzhou Kun Opera Theatre. Stage and costumes are designed by Tim Yip, Best Art Direction Oscar for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It has not been shown outside the Chinese world. The Beijing première was one of China's major events in 2004.


THEATRE CAHAYA

Siddhartha, based on the novel by H. Hesse, tells through dancing, the spiritual evolution of a man who lives in India during the time of Buddha. In order to put on this spiritual journey, this Malaysian company has gathered well-known artists from Indonesia, India and Japan who perform native dances such as topeng, bedoyo and gamelan from Indonesia; noh and shomyo from Japan; bharatanatyam and makyong from Malaysia.

Program: Siddhartha. A contemporary drama.


THEATREWORKS

It was established in 1985. It is an international theater company based in Singapore that has become well- known in Asia thanks to the reinvention it has made of traditional theater by placing cultures side by side. The esthetic project of Theatreworks is the hybrid identity of modern Asia which incorporates the continent’s multiple realities.

Programs: Workhorse Afloat, The Yang Family, Descendants of the Eunuch. Admiral, Broken Birds, Desdemona…


TAYUAN PUPPET THEATRE COMPANY PUPPET THEATER

Drawing its inspiration from Marco Polo’s original book, it tells the story in which adventures mix with love. The story is represented by some puppets, costumes and the accompaniment of Italian and southern Chinese music especially designed for the story by this company from Taiwan.

Program: Marco Polo.
Members: 8 people (Puppeteers, singers and technicians).
Music: Recorded.
(There is the possibility of a six-member orchestra to perform live).


U- THEATRE. The Sound of Ocean

A real show to watch and to listen. The percussion and expression through movement of this Taiwanese company researches into the deepest roots of their ancestral culture.

Members: 23 people.
Liu Ching-Ming: artistic director.
Wong Chee-Mon: master of the drum, composer.
Yip Kam-Tim: costume design.


WAHYU

Asian contemporary dance production, created and choreographed by Sen Hea Ha and with music composed by György Ligeti. This production is performed by three dancers and one pianist on stage and enforced by a Taiwanese lighting designer and two Indonesian video artists. `Wahyu´, in its broad sense, is spiritual enlightenment: “our endless paradise lies deep within our inner being; it is in our hearts and minds”.

Members: 4 people (3 dancers).
Program: Wahyu.


YIP KAM-TIM
Catwalk

Famous designer Yip, Kam Tim, who was awarded an Oscar to the Best Artistic Direction for the film Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, introduces us to his wonderful designs with which he researches in the past and in the roots while creating the most ancestral-flavored futuristic designs. This catwalk has a film-like or theater-like staging with well-known Taiwanese artists taking part in it.

Members: To be negotiated.
Program: Faces of the Time.


YIP KAM-TIM
Visions and Creations
  virtual gallery

Amazing exhibition of 138 photographies and costumes created for the cinema and performing arts by Yip Kam Tim, one of the most important representatives of the contemporary oriental aesthetics, internationally awarded. Among his many prices, the Oscar for the Best Art Direction with the film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”.

Optionally, some of his publications can be displayed and project or reproduce images from some show in which he has taken part with his designs.
